Geoff Roberts

Promoting gender equality in the Defence before International Criminal Tribunals leads to greater choice of counsel and consequently more effective and efficient legal representation, which is self-evidently in the interests of both the Defence teams and the accused and suspects they represent as well as international justice as a whole. I am firmly committed to taking every step to ensure that this aspiration becomes a reality embedded throughout the international defence bar.

I support the IGC Panel Parity Pledge.
  • Strive for the introduction of greater protections and benefits for support staff, including but not limited to paid parental leave, to be centrally funded by the IRMCT.

  • Encourage the Registry of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT) to ensure that at least half of the lists of duty counsel are female and lists of counsel proposed to a suspect or accused contain at least one female Defence counsel.
