It is my job to steer UNHCR towards embracing and promoting gender equality and other forms of inclusion and diversity. We have no option but to have diversity at the table when we are making decisions and developing solutions to meet the complex and challenging forced displacement situations we are faced with in today’s world. I am committed to ensuring that my organisation upholds the value of gender equality through the inclusion of women and men both within UNHCR, with our implementing partners and through the participation of displaced people. I see my role as a leader is to be mindful of this in my decision making and in communicating clearly to others that I expect this of them also.
Update the Commitments to Refugee Women with the purpose of advancing the rights of women of concern and implementing concrete measures to improve their protection, including through their strengthened participation in peace and security initiatives.
Sustaining and improving an equitable, diverse, inclusive and non-discriminatory work environment and workforce through targeted, cross-functional initiatives such as training on unconscious bias and inclusive leadership.
