Background

Ten years ago, the International Gender Champions (IGC) was founded with a simple, but bold vision: uniting international decision-makers determined to break down barriers and make gender equality a reality within their sphere of influence. Launched on 1 July 2015 by former UN Geneva Director-General Michael Møller, former U.S. Ambassador to the UN in Geneva Pamela Hamamoto, and Women@TheTable CEO and Founder Caitlin Kraft-Buchman, the IGC quickly grew from a small group of committed leaders into a powerful network spanning six hubs. Since its inception, over 800 leaders worldwide have taken the IGC core pledges and made concrete commitments to advance gender equality through their institutional or programmatic work.

As we celebrate 10 years of transformative leadership and collective action in a milestone year for gender equality, we take pride in the impact we have made together. From policy changes to cultural shifts, from amplifying voices to implementing tangible reforms, the IGC network has proven that real change happens when leaders take action. This anniversary is not only a moment to reflect on our journey, but also an opportunity to set our sights on an even more ambitious future—one that strengthens partnerships, engages new sectors, and reenergises international commitment for gender equality in light of recent backsliding.

To mark this important anniversary, the IGC Secretariat is delighted to invite all active International Gender Champions as well as Alumni Champions to join our 10-year anniversary celebration on 3 July 2025, 12:00 – 13:30 CET at the Palais des Nations (Area 17, Serpentine Bar).

Objectives

  • Celebrating the impact of the IGC and the Champions who have turned commitments into action over the past decade.
  • Reenergising the momentum for gender equality in an evolving global landscape by sharing inspiring practices and lessons learned from ten years of IGC.
  • Reflecting on new pathways to strengthen the network’s future via IGC Lighthouse Strategy consultations and socialisation amongst the private sector.

Format

The event will feature remarks from distinguished members of the network, followed by a reception.

Please note that, while primarily directed for active and alumni Champions and the larger IGC community, this is a public event. All holders of a UNOG grounds pass will be able to attend.

To RSVP, please send an email to admin@genderchampions.com.
