On the occasion of World Intellectual Property Day 2018, WIPO is hosting a special screening of Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story in collaboration with the Permanent Missions of the United States of America and Austria.

The film tells the story of Hedy Lamarr, a 1940s film idol, whose beauty and glamor overshadowed her true talent as an inventor. Her work revolutionized telecommunications and would eventually force the world to recognize that it had greatly underestimated her contributions.

Director Alexandra Dean will introduce the film via Skype.

The event will be followed by a reception.

Every year on April 26, WIPO celebrates World Intellectual Property Day to highlight the role that intellectual property rights (patents, trademarks, industrial designs and copyright) play in encouraging innovation and creativity.

This year we are celebrating the brilliance, ingenuity, curiosity and courage of the women who are driving change in our world and shaping our common future.
