2025 marks the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action—an enduring global commitment to advancing the rights and empowerment of women and girls. In this context, the UNODC is hosting a high-level conference titled “UNODC and Beijing+30: Women, Justice, and Security in a Changing World on 4–5 June 2025 in the Vienna International Centre. The conference will examine how gender equality commitments has been integrated across UNODC’s mandate areas—from justice reform and crime prevention to countering terrorism, organized crime, drugs, and corruption.

Bringing together Member States, experts, civil society organizations, and UN partners, the conference aims to assess progress, share best practices, and chart strategic actions to strengthen gender-responsive approaches in UNODC’s mandated areas.

What to Expect:

  • High-level dialogues – featuring youth voices alongside policymakers and experts – on how gender perspectives enhance criminal justice responses to corruption, organized crime, terrorism, and drugs – with a focus on both progress made and persistent gaps since Beijing 1995.
  • Operational insights into how integrating gender perspectives has shaped UNODC’s work on corruption, organized crime, terrorism, and drugs – and why this matters for more effective and inclusive outcomes.
  • Reflections on progress since the Beijing Platform for Action, spotlighting achievements in gender equality across UNODC’s mandate areas and identifying what has truly made a difference.
  • Showcasing of good practices and success stories from the ground, illustrating how Member States, civil society organizations, and UN partners have advanced gender-responsive approaches in justice and security sectors.
  • Critical discussions on persistent gaps, the challenges still facing gender mainstreaming in complex and evolving contexts, and how lessons learned can inform strategic action ahead of Beijing+30.
  • Collaborative dialogue and exchange, aimed at strengthening partnerships and collective accountability for gender equality within the broader UN and global justice system.
