Call from ITU to IGC Member UN Agencies: Gender Mainstreaming Reviews

ITU would like to consult with other IGC Member UN agencies who conducted mainstreaming reviews in the last 2-3 years. They are looking for examples of ToRs and for the identification of potential individual experts/consultants who could undertake this work. Interested persons are invited to contact Mr Jimmy Christel Ngoma, Project Manager of the PRIDA Project at jimmy-christel.ngoma@itu.int and María Victoria Sukenik, ITU Strategy and Policy Advisor at victoria.sukenik@itu.int

Background

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU), as the United Nations specialized agency for information and communication technologies (ICTs), works to bridge the digital divide and build an inclusive digital society. In this context, including a gender perspective in ITU’s work is essential to ensure that the benefits of ICTs are made available to all women and men on a fair and equitable basis.

The Policy and Regulation Initiative for Digital Africa (PRIDA) (itu.int) is an initiative funded by the European Union. Its Component 1, managed by ITU, is dedicated to Spectrum Management in Africa and its 54 countries.

The largest part of the project is made of training and workshops on spectrum-related matters.

One of the project requirements is to apply gender mainstreaming when implementing activities. Being at the midway point of project implementation, an evaluation will take place.

Information about the Gender Mainstreaming Review

The gender mainstreaming review assesses how well gender-related issues were considered thus far while organizing and implementing PRIDA project activities.

All of the project's activities must undergo this review.

A consultant will be appointed to conduct an assessment of the PRIDA project activities from a gender perspective, provide recommendations and develop an action plan for strengthening gender equality and mainstreaming in the project. This may entail new activities to be included in the project workplan, with SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time Based) targets and indicators, and potential partners for implementation.

The consultancy will also help determine how to define and measure impact in the project’s various areas of implementation.

ITU’s Ask to the IGC Community

As this is the ITU’s first assessment of this type, ITU would like to consult with other IGC Member UN agencies to identify similar reviews conducted in the last 2-3 years. They are looking for examples of ToRs and for the identification of potential individual experts/consultants who could undertake this work.
